Community Results

In November and December 2015, five elementary school-aged girls participated in a 3-week, 6-session after school program, "Free to Be Me." The program taught the girls to be confident about themselves. Each girl took the "Free to Be Me" pledge to remember to be confident in how she felt about herself. Each girl expressed a desire to be part of Girl Scouts through long-term membership.

Nine girls participated in Camp CEO in Portales in October 2015. The day-long council program provided high school girls an opportunity to learn how to transition easily into adulthood after high school. Each girl walked away from the program understanding her plan for the near future, and with an increased sense of confidence and independence in pursuing her education and/or professional goals after high school.
Although Girl Scouts in Curry and Roosevelt counties have been without a staff person since February 2015, the organization has continued with 60 girls and 29 volunteers. At a time when it would be easy to walk away, these Scouts continue to encourage and empower each other to follow the Girl Scout mission of ensuring girls hae the courage, confidence, and character they need to make the world a better place. Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is grateful for this group of dedicated girls and adults, and is confident that the Girl Scout program will grow and prosper in the months ahead.
